I'd like to request the following class
The Courtier
Be added to the game.
Now, as is, I think its a fine class with a lot of flavor, and makes for a fantastic Face for any party. The abilities that it possess focus a lot around leadership and wealth, though it does so in a way that makes it difficult to really exploit within a typical adventure setting, so I don't feel that part is especially unbalanced.
According to the creator, the class is around a Tier 4 or low Tier 3, and I agree with that sentiment. However, this raises some concerns for me. Given that many threads on the site tend to either be solo, or with a smaller than average party size, I worry that having a social focused character would leave me too vulnerable when combat starts, and comes up just a pinch on the short side in terms of overall effectiness to a group (again, outside of social situations).
I'd appreciate a second opinion or two, regarding the classes overall balance, and if I'm not alone in the opinion that it underperforms, I'd like some suggestions of ways to improve it a smidge.
My initial thoughts for ways to provide the small increase in strength were as follows:
Increase the uses per day of Charming words from CHA mod per day, to 1/2 Level + CHA mod per day.
Either grant a small improvement to spellcasting (Maybe spells up to 6th level) or offer a small increase in spells/day.
Allow them to wear light/medium armor without arcane spell failure.
As a last note, there was a really neat ability of minor impact that I saw in a similar Noble character class. I'd like to add it here, since it was excellent for flavor without actually impacting game balance in the slightest.
Royal Skill: Since you don't actually have to train to develop your abilities, you have plenty of time for some hobbies! At 3rd level pick one profession, knowledge and craft skill-you always count as having max ranks in the chosen skills for the purposes of making skill rolls, plus you can use your Cha instead of other ability scores on checks with them. You do not, however, count as having ranks in these skills for any other purposes, such as aquiring feats, meeting prestige class prerequisites, using magic items, or for using other class abilities.
At levels 7, 10, 13, 16 and 19 you can pick another trio of skills for this.
So those are my thoughts. I now invite feedback from any interested in providing it.
