Sneachtan was used to scaring some folks a bit without intending to. After all, at 6ft. 5 in, with muscles to spare, he stood above most people. He'd never met someone who'd made him feel short before, but the half-ogre had done it. He'd been about to reply to the mantis creature, who seemed friendly enough, when the ogre came up behind them.
He immediately recognized the holy symbols of Torm that were on the Ogre's equipment. From the way he acted, it seemed at least plausible that he'd obtained these things legitimately. He'd fought an ogre once on his way down south from Bryn Shyner and barely gotten away with his life. If he had one on his side now, that could only help. Well, at least when it comes to fighting. Situations that require a bit more of social finesse may prove... interesting. He decided to give both of them the benefit of the doubt and made no objection to either of them coming with them. They both seem decent enough. And anyone can be good in spite of their ancestry, I suppose.
So we've got ourselves a tracker, a warrior, a mage, and a battle mage. Seems decent enough to defend ourselves. I wonder how this beast will react when it's prey tries to fight back. He thought to himself with a smile.

Argudas stood straight, fiddling with its crossbow, as the mottle crew of adventurers stumbled out of the in one by one and assigned themselves to two squads. When Tito started setting out to follow the tracks, the construct turned to the group and spoke. "The trail will only grow colder. Those of us heading further in should move." The page jumped at Blossom's touch, but he managed to avoid screaming and running again. "I...I'm scared. Priest Watchwill is a good man - I hope they haven't hurt him." In the Priest's rooms, Gix noticed that the sheets on the bed were rumpled, as though someone had been dragged from them. There were also marks on the floor that might be prints of a sort, particularly in the dust along the walls. Survival or Knowledge: Nature to identify. In the town streets, neither Tito nor Argudas had any luck following the tracks; they were crisscrossed with civilian and guardsmen tracks, and the snow did not hold either well.

"Me too.." Blossom nods solemnly, returning outside to do what must be done. She easily finds the set of tracks again and begins to follow them. I figure that I've already succeeded on the rolls already, but this is in case I need to make another check when things get difficult.

The kobold gave a curious hmm as he glanced across the room, spotting the bed, and then finally the prints along the dust. He wanders over to get a closer look without actually touching them, just in case he couldn't identify it, Blossom might take a crack at it whenever he catches up with her. The large half-ogre sheathes his sword, and gives the page a "reassuring" pat on the back. " Don't worry good sir," intoned Tujam, " We shall find the good Priest Watchwill in a Just and Lawful Crusade against whatever foul blasphemer took him." I'm not sure, can I use a Diplomacy check to try to calm or reassure the page?? Diplomacy l00CVFuK11-30

Tito heaves an exasperated sigh and looks at his mechanical compatriot, "It seems we've lost the trail already... Too many curious passersby milling about and ruining the tracks... Doesn't seem like anybody actually witnessed the beast either."

Post by Genindy on Jan 26, 2015 6:07:26 GMT
The group of halflings woke just as the ruckus was dying down. Genindy sat up first, and quickly scrambled around the room for her clothing, then her armor and weapons. Her head was still throbbing from her hangover from the previous two days of partying since she arrived in the town. She had done a good trade with crafted goods from Amn and largely wasted a lot of that money on booze and food since. Dicril stirred groggily in the bed behind her. "Was that an alarm Genindy?" he asked her, concern growing on his face. "Yes it was, and we came here to help so we should respond and join any others out there helping. Do you know where my shoe is?" "Found your shoe!" Came the voice of Kallen from under another pile of blankets on Genindy's bed. "Thanks boys. You two need to stay here and look after the cart. I have left money for you to keep this room and eat well." She tossed a small pouch of coin from her sack onto the bed. "That should keep you going for spending money. Keep out of trouble ok." She stopped and pulled on her stockings and boots, tied her belt around the leafweave armored skirt and tied up the bows on the front of her leafweave shirt, her Tabbard displaying the symbol of Gond and the Dalibrandy family crest together on the front, swishing her yellow and blue cape about her. She tied up the huge mass of bright red hair with a selection of white ribbons, the mass of curls forming a large bobbing ball of hair behind her. Genindy picked up the small round Mithril shield - emblazoned with the Dalibrandy family symbol - and strapped on her javelins.
As she finished the bedroom door opened, and Pedakepp burst in with his greatsword across his back and a loaded heavy crossbow in hand. His short blonde hair looked like it needed a good comb, but his scale armor was shiny and well kept. Beside him stood Genindy's sister, Theallalea Dalibrandy, also in scale armor, with a shortsword and large heavy looking steel shield already carried in her hands.
The trio of Halflings made their way to the temple of Tyr just as the various groups departed in different directions. Genindy knelt down to look at the corpses, the sight of blood and guts not bothering her or her companions in the slightest. "Looks like some sort of wild animal." Genindy guessed, though not knowing enough to identify the beast. A small pixie flutters out of the temple, quickly finding and following what Genindy assumes are tracks in the slowly falling snow. With a nod from Genindy all three halflings set off wordlessly at a jog following the Pixie, hoping they going the right way.

Gix: You have no idea what sort of creature made these tracks. The page, still shaking, nods to the large half-orc. He doesn't seem to trust his voice enough to say more, but he at least has stopped screaming now. Blossom easily follows the trail of the attackers further into the city. Several of the group follow her, while the others set off into the wilderness, tracking the other group. This is where the group splits. Those staying in the city, remain in this thread. The other group will be moving to a new thread (The Night Chase) which will be up later this morning. Once everything is set up, I'll make another post for the city group.

Blossom followed the trail deeper into the city, managing to keep it until she came to the first main crossing. Even in a good inch of snow, the trail seemed to disappear completely; the prints she had been following no longer existed. There were plenty of tracks, but none that looked like the pawed prints she had been tracking.

The trail seems to abruptly stop without a rhyme or reason. Nothing seems to logically fit in place either. Just. *poof* Blossom is rather confused by this. She stops, fluttering directly above the last paw prints and peers about. Noticing the 5 or so other people following her, she says, "The trail just disappeared! But I'm pretty sure these tracks are not of a natural animal. They seem to be of a lycanthrope's!" She begins to study the area closely, looking for some kind of clue as to what happened, where he, she, or it went. A few possibilities were already forming in her mind. I guess it's best if everyone else attempts a search check as well!

The kobold's tongue flicked against his lips in a harsh manner, as well as a disappointed growl running through his throat. Still, at least he could tell that the priest was likely a victim, and not one of the creatures. He turned away from the room, stopping briefly to talk to the guardsmen who had brought him in. "Keep people out of this room, if you can. There are prints of whatever abducted the priest, although I can't tell what it is. When I can, I'll bring one of the other adventurers who can identify it, but we'll have an easier time of it if people don't disturb the dust in the room." With that settled, he didn't even wait to listen to the guards reply before he made his way out of the temple, quickly taking flight into the night until his copper eyes settled on one of the groups of people that he had noticed - his eyes quickly settling upon the distinctive warforged and pixie nearby, prompting him to land nearby to the two with barely a sound.
"It seems that the priest isn't one of the creatures, as far as I can tell. It looked like someone was dragged from his bed at least. There are prints of some kind of creature in the dust there, but I couldn't identify them. I've asked the guard to make sure no one disturbs them so we can follow that if need be," he spoke, before turning his attention to where the fey's gaze was drawn. "How goes the trail over here?"

It did not seem apparent right away that there was anything noteworthy to follow. Abruptly turning when she heard the sneaky kobold speaking, she replied, "It seems the tracks just stopped. I think you were right about the culprit being some kind of were-creature though. These tracks are not quite that of any animal's... I don't think this person just disappeared from existence though. They had to have gone somewhere else from here..."Blossom continued searching the surrounding area. And she thought: Could they have begun flying? Or perhaps jumped on a roof? Or maybe the answer is not above but below. Maybe there's something in the ground? If no one's search check turns up anything, Blossom will try brushing away the snow on the ground where the tracks were going and see if there is some kind of... hole or thing covering a hole in the ground.

"Hmm..." the kobold thought for a moment, looking towards where the pixie was seemingly staring towards, before his attention drifted towards the nearby buildings. "Do you think anyone there might have seen something?" he pointed, towards the nearest of them, as he took to flight to get a good angle on just what the building was. Of course, he could have walked, but flying alleviated the cold sensation of snow against the non-padded parts of his feet. Foot wrappings only kept out so much of the cold...

Argudas: You notice some small pawprints in the snow - much smaller than what you were following earlier. They lead off the street and to a small hole in a nearby building.

Argudas hunched down and examined the ground. The Warforged retrieved a small lense from its cloak and placed it over its eye. Among the confused, overlapping tracks of panicked peasants there were some small prints. Smaller than the ones Blossom had been tracking up until this point.
The construct rose to its feet and pointed. "Blossom, do you recognize these tracks? They appear to lead to a small hole in the wall of that building."
